Private Retreats

Two locations for private retreats are available through St. Scholastica Monastery.  During private retreats, guests are welcome to participate in the prayer life of the sisters, receive spiritual direction, and use the resources of our print and media libraries.

Retreat Center

The Retreat Center offers the opportunity for guests to walk through 66 acres of partially wooded grounds, to walk the labyrinth, meditate on the seven sorrows of Mary or at the different statues, altars, and gazebos along the walking paths.  An extensive library of religious books is available in the Chapter room; a periodical, audio, and video library is located on the second floor of the monastery.  An indoor swimming pool, open during the warmer months, is open to guests. Individual spiritual direction is available; we have six spiritual directors on staff.

Guests are welcome to pray the Liturgy of the Hours with the sisters at morning, noon, and evening, to attend daily Mass, to spend time in Adoration preceding noon praise, and to join the sisters in the Rosary at mid-afternoon.

It is requested that reservations be made at least one week in advance by calling the Center at (479) 783-1135.  Fees for room and board are $60 per day.  Spiritual direction is available at $40 a session.

Hesychia House of Prayer

Hesychia House of Prayer is located in New Blaine, Arkansas, about ten miles east of Subiaco on Highway 22. It is in a rural area amid pastures of grazing cattle, surrounded by mountain ranges of exquisite beauty. The quiet and the natural beauty create a peaceful atmosphere conducive to prayer. Each guest has a fully-equipped hermitage for his/her use, including cooking and refrigeration facilities, a full bath, air conditioning and electric heating in addition to a wood-burning stove. Linens are provided. No pets are allowed.

Guests are to provide their own food and do all their own cooking. If they wish, they may join the core for community prayer consisting of Mass and the Liturgy of the Hours.

The suggested donation for the hermitages is $50/night for the first week; $35/night thereafter; and $20 for a day only. However, if someone is unable to pay the requested amount, a lesser amount for a short-term stay (one week or less) can be arranged.

The staff at St. Scholastica Retreat Center and Hesychia House of Prayer will pick up guests at the airport. Because of distance, the sisters are unable to pick retreatants up at Fort Smith Regional Airport.
